Experience
Tengku Hasmuddin has extensive experience in the areas of corporate commercial law and Islamic banking and finance. His key interest, however, is in Islamic banking and finance. His involvement in this area began with the inception of the first Islamic bank in Malaysia, as a pioneer legal counsel responsible for developing the structural framework for documentation relating to Islamic banking products. He continues to play an active role in the development of Islamic finance in Malaysia and his consultancy is much sought after by clients and industry players.
Tengku Hasmuddin is frequently invited to present talks on Islamic finance and has delivered the keynote address at a conference on the secondary Islamic financial market jointly organized by the Accounting and Auditing Organisation for Islamic Financial Institutions and the World Bank. As well as being a member of the law review main committee for Islamic banking and finance transactions of the Central Bank of Malaysia and an advisor to the Association of Banking Institutions of Malaysia, he also sits on the task force committee of Islamic Finance for Labuan International Offshore Centre, Malaysia. In addition to being active in legal practice, Tengku Hasmuddin also manages both of the Firm’s offices, located in Petaling Jaya and Seremban.

Prior to being admitted to the Malaysian Bar, Sulaiman had begun his professional life as a banker during which he gained an insight into the workings of the banking sector. Such experience has proved invaluable to his area of practice which focuses on providing specialist advice on a variety of banking documentation for bridging and syndicated loans, project financing and other aspects of corporate banking. Sulaiman is also actively involved in the preparation of security documentation in relation to large developments and property related transactions.

Hamdan joined the firm in January 2002, after having worked in a local bank in various legal capacities. His area of practice focuses on corporate and commercial law. He has attended to numerous mergers and acquisitions as well as restructuring exercises involving financial institutions, public listed companies and private companies. Hamdan has also acted as the main counsel in privatisation matters and in legal due diligence investigations related to various acquisitions and debt and capital market exercises.

Experience
Ainihayati is a senior partner and currently heads the Islamic Finance Department. She commenced her legal career in 1996 and has been a partner with the Firm since 2007.
Her practice experience extends to corporate and banking matters, with a special focus on Islamic financing transactions such as Islamic consumer, commercial and corporate banking and Islamic private debt securities issues including bonds, commercial papers and medium term notes based on innovative shariah-compliant structures. She has also advised clients on due diligence and mergers and acquisitions, and her clients include numerous issuers, underwriters, investors, trustees and financial institutions.
Ainihayati’s considerable experience has also led to Islamic financial institutions seeking her expertise to structure and develop documentation for new Islamic finance products in the areas of consumer and corporate banking, trade financing and consumer credit financing.
